If you’re anything like us, you want your wedding invitations to stand out. They should grab your guests’ attention and get them excited for your big day.

But how should you go about doing that? With so many wedding invitation options out there, it can be hard to narrow ideas down. One of the things we suggest is to pick one or two “wow” elements that you enjoy. This helps you keep your invitations elegant and tasteful without going over budget.

Below are some of our favorite “wow” options to get you started. And the best thing is, almost all of them can be adapted to fit your wedding colors, style, and season!

1. Bold Wedding Envelopes

If you’re looking to grab your guests’ attention at the mailbox, then a bold, colorful envelope is a must. The color will stand out from the rest of the white mail and entice your loved ones to open your invitation first. Or, if bright colors aren’t your style, opt to print a soft design on the envelope.

You can also go big with the inner envelope. Include a venue or floral illustration on an envelope liner that will set the tone for your wedding.

2. Printed Vellum Wraps

Vellum wraps are translucent cardstock jackets that fold around your invitation. They create an extra layer to unwrap and give your invitations a more luxurious feel. While blank ones have been around for a while, printed vellum wraps have grown in popularity. Add a floral or greenery pattern for a spring or summer wedding. Or opt for a subtle, white ink pattern for fall or winter wedding.

3. Wax Seals

Okay, so these have been a favorite for a little while, but they’re still as popular as ever! How cool would it be to receive an envelope stamped with a wax seal? Trust us, guests love them!

Wax seals are fitting regardless of your wedding style. Love the minimalist black and white look? Add a black, square-shaped seal! Prefer bright and colorful? Wax seals come in any color you may want! Use them to seal either your envelopes or vellum wraps.

4. Velvet & Textures

A newer trend on the rise, velvet and other textiles are becoming more popular in wedding invitation design. Velvet adds a luxury feel to your invitations and is a great choice for fall and winter weddings. You can include a velvet ribbon or belly band to hold your invitation set together. Or, if you really want to impress your guests, use a velvet inner envelope. (Yes, we said envelope!)

5. Die-Cut Shapes

Recently, many couples have been ditching the traditional rectangular invite for a shape that’s a little more fun. Circles and arches have been the most popular, and they’re certainly unexpected! If you have a whimsical style, then this may be a great option for you. Also, if your venue has a lot of grand archways, combining the arch die-cut with a venue illustration would be a fun way to bring your wedding to life!

6. Personalization

With Covid-19 still a concern, some couples are opting for smaller celebrations. Intimate ceremonies offer more opportunities to really personalize your stationery. For instance, you may choose to address each guest by name on your invitation. This makes the invite feel like a personalized note rather than a generic message. It breaks tradition to some degree but in a meaningful way.

7. Wedding Themes

Another fun way to stand out is to create a unique theme for your wedding. This could be as elaborate or subtle as you like. For instance, your theme could be a specific color used consistently throughout your décor (and invitations). Or you could base it off of your location/venue. For example, a wedding hosted in Uptown New Orleans could have the theme “Sunset Under the Oaks.” For your invitations, hire a stationer to create original stationery that matches your unique theme!
